The key piece of equipment for bird watchers is binoculars. They are especially useful for beginners as the right way up view makes it easy to navigate the skies.
For most uses, 8x is a good magnification to choose. Most binocular lens cloths available on the market are pre-moistened and individually packed in fine material. The first number is the amount of magnification or zoom the pair has.
Microfibre lens cloths are made of tiny polyester or polyamide fibers that are a thousand times thinner than human hair. I've used them for about three weeks now and have been blown away with the quality of the optics. Costlier monoculars with 30x or greater magnifications are made of better prisms and lenses.
If you plan on using your binoculars in low light conditions, you may want get an even higher objective diameter, such as 8x50. A tripod may be a good thing to have if you re using binoculars with high magnification. When you consider the cost of a single hunting trip, quality three to five hundred dollar binoculars are a great investment.
There are binoculars that cost under ten dollars and others which cost in excess of twenty five hundred. And don't forget about small children and their fascination with dropping electronic equipment in toilets.
